My meditation journey started 17 years ago when I enrolled in an eight-week course with the Mindfulness clinic in Toronto. The course was called Meditation for Health. I highly recommend this course to anyone experiencing chronic pain, insomnia, stress, and anxiety, or would like to find ways to settle the mind and be in the present moment. After I took the course I did my own mindful meditation at home and participated in the occasional meditation retreats.
Five years ago I began practicing mindful meditation based on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. Every week I attend a two-hour class at the Toronto Buddhist Church with meditation facilitator Ray Nakano. Ray was ordained as a member of the Order of Interbeing by Thich Nhat Hanh in 2011. We meditate based on the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and share dharma teachings with the Sangha.
Over the past five years I have been assisting Ray during the meditation sessions and continue to learn more about the responsibilities of being a Bell Master. I currently lead meditation sessions when Ray is away and incorporate mindful meditation in all of my yoga classes.
